Description
Methenamine is an antibacterial agent which in the urine is converted to formaldehyde, an antiseptic. In the bladder, these agents target undesirable bacterial growth associated with urinary tract infections.1
Sodium salicylate, an analgesic, helps with discomfort associated with a UTI through its anti-inflammatory activity.1

Efficacy
Methenamine targets undesirable bacterial growth associated with UTIs, and sodium salicylate addresses bladder discomfort associated with a UTI through its anti-inflammatory activity.1,2 To support the activity of the antibacterial agent, the tablet contains acidifying excipients like benzoic acid and is enteric coated.
Safety
As a prescription medication, methenamine has been used for decades for the prevention of urinary tract infections.1,2 The antibacterial agent used in AZO Urinary Tract DefenseTM has demonstrated no development of bacterial resistance.2
Directions For Use
Adults and children 12 years and over: Take 2 tablets with a full glass of water 3 times a day. Drink plenty of fluids.
